HOW TO PRAY FOR REVIVAL
SUPPLICATION AND INTERCESSORY PRAYER
FOR THE CHURCH
I. PRAY THAT OUR CHURCH WILL BE CHARACTERIZED:
A. By Fervent Love For God. (Matthew 22:37-40)
B. By Genuine Love For The Brethren.
(John 13:34-35; 1 John 2:5; 3:14; 4:20-21)
John 13:34-35–“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
C. By Unity.
In John 17:11, Jesus prayed for his disciples saying, “those that whom thou has given me, that they may be one, as we are.”
In John 17:21, Jesus prayed for us saying, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me”
1. Oneness Of Accord. (Philippians 2:2)
2. Oneness Of Mind. (2 Corinthians 13:11; Philippians 1:27; 2:2; 1 Peter 3:8)
2 Corinthians 13:11–“Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”
1 Peter 3:8–“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:”
3. Oneness Of Heart And Soul. (Acts 4:32)
Acts 4:32–“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul:”
4. Oneness In Spirit. (Philippians 1:27)
(Acts 4:31; Philippians 1:20)
Acts 4:31–“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
II. PRAY FOR CONVICTION OF SIN:
A. Pray For The Conviction Of The Sins Of Materialism and Covetousness.
(Luke 12:15; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; Hebrews 13:5)
Ephesians 5:3–“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.”
Colossians 3:5–“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
Hebrews 13:5–“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have:”
B. Pray For The Conviction Of The Sin Of Having Temporal Values Instead Of Eternal Values.
(Matthew 6:19-21; 1 Timothy 6:8-10; James 5:1ff; 2 Peter 3:10-14)
Matthew 6:19-21–“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
C. Pray For The Conviction Of The Sin Of Pride.
(James 4:6-10; 1 Peter 5:5-6)
1 Peter 5:5-6–“. . .be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:”
D. Pray For Conviction Of The Sin Of Indifference.
(Luke 10:30-32; Revelation 3:15-19)
Luke 10:30-32–“Many are like the priest and the Levite who passed by the man who fell among thieves when they ought to be like the Good Samaritan.”
Just like the Church of the Laodecians–many in our Churches today are not hot and they’re not cold.
E. Pray For Conviction Of The Sin Of Laziness.
(Ephesians 5:15-16)
F. Pray For Conviction Of The Sin Of Lack of Love.
(Matthew 24:12; Revelation 2:4-5)
1. Toward The Lord. (Like church at Ephesus)
2. Toward The Brethren.
3. Toward A Lost World.
G. Pray For The Conviction Of The Sin Of Impurity.
(Ephesians 5:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4, 7)
Ephesians 5:3--But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.
H. Pray For The Conviction Of The Sin Of Worldliness.
1 John 2:15–“Love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
Many Churches have become so worldly that there is not much difference anymore. (Pagan music, pagan worship, pagan entertainment, pagan dress)
III. PRAY FOR A SPIRIT OF HUMILITY AND REPENTANCE.
(Proverbs 22:4; James 4:6, 10)
Proverbs 22:4–“By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.”
IV. PRAY FOR A RENEWED COMMITMENT TO OBEDIENCE AND TO THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE AND THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST.
(1 Samuel 15:22; Jeremiah 7:23; Mark 12:33)
1 Samuel 15:22–“Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
V. PRAY FOR A DEEP BURDEN FOR THE LOST.
(Romans 9:1-3; 10:1; Luke 13:34)
Luke 13:34–“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!”
VI. PRAY THAT THOSE WHO PROFESS TO KNOW CHRIST BUT DO NOT REALLY POSSESS HIM, WILL RECOGNIZE THEIR NEED AND WILL BE BORN AGAIN.
2 Corinthians 13:5–“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”
