MARY'S DISCOVERIES

LUKE 1:26-38

Introduction

The archangel Gabriel appears to a Nazareth virgin named Mary who was espoused to be the wife of a man named

Joseph who was of the lineage of David.

He announces that God has chosen her to bear his blessed Son into the world.

Galatians 4:4-5--"But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons."

Especially to be observed are the words in Luke 1:28.

The angel did not say above women, but among women. Note also in vs. 47 that the first recorded person to call Jesus Saviour was his mother Mary. Mary needed salvation like all others.

In the announcement by Gabriel, we find that Mary made several discoveries.

I.         MARY DISCOVERED THAT GOD'S PLAN'S ARE ETERNAL. (VS 33)

            A.        God Is Eternal.

                        1.       Psalm 90:2-"Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting

                                    thou art God."

                        2.         Psalm 93:2-"Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting."

3.         Deut 33:27-"The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms..."

            B.        God's Plans Are Eternal.

Ephesians 4:11-"According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

                        1.         The Life He Gives Is Eternal Life.

                        2.         The Kingdom He Reigns Over Will Be An Everlasting Kingdom.

II.       MARY DISCOVERED THAT GOD'S PROMISES ARE UNFAILING. (VS 32,33)

II Corinthians 1:20-"For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us."

            II Peter 1:4-"Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises..."

            A.        God Had Promised Many Things In The Past That He Delivered.

I Kings 8:56-"Blessed be the Lord, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant."

                        Joshua 21:45; 23:14-15

                        God Had Proved That His Word Is Dependable.

            B.        Mary Could Bank On What God Had Promised And So Can We.

                        I John 2:25-"And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life."

III.      MARY DISCOVERED THAT GOD'S POWER IS UNLIMITED. (VS 34-37)

            A.        God Demonstrated His Power At Creation.

            B.        God Demonstrated His Power To The Patriarchs.

                        1.         Noah-The Flood.

                        2.         Abraham-Isaac.

            C.        God Demonstrated His Power To The Children Of Israel.

                        1.         The 10 Plagues Upon The Egyptians.

                        2.         The Parting Of The Red Sea.

                        3.         The Water From Out Of The Rock.

                        4.         The Manna From Heaven.

                        5.         The Walls Of Jericho.

            D.        God Demonstrated His Power To The Prophets.

                        1.        Elijah Upon Mount Carmel.

                        2.         Daniel In The Lion's Den.

                        3.         David And Goliath.

            E.        God Demonstrated His Power To Elisabeth.

                        (Mary's cousin)

            F.       God Demonstrated His Power In Mary's Life.

It is easier for us to believe that God can and does demonstrate His power in the lives of other people than it is for us to believe that God can and will demonstrate His power in our lives.

Conclusion

Each of Mary's Discoveries are demonstrated in the Gospel.

1.         God's Plan's Are Eternal-Cross of Christ.

2.         God's Promise's Are Unfailing-Resurrection.

3.         God's Power Is Unlimited-New Birth.
