OUR GOD IS ABLE
VARIOUS SCRIPTURE
INTRODUCTION
Genesis 18:14–“Is any thing too hard for the LORD?”
Luke 1:37–“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
Matthew 19:26–“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
Many times when we think of God we think of Him on human terms. This often causes us to not think as highly of God as we should.
The Bible reveals that our God is omniscient, but we aren’t. (Psalm 139:1-6; 13-18)
The Bible reveals that our God is omnipresent, but we aren’t. (Psalm 139:7-12)
The Bible reveals that our God is omnipotent, but we aren’t. (Psalm 139:13)
The Bible reveals that our God is infinite, but we are finite. (Psalm 147:5) (i.e. We have limits.)
It is easy for us to look at our inabilities and lose sight of the fact that God has infinite ability.
Isaiah 55:7-9–“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
God can do anything:
1) If it can be done.
i.e. God cannot create a rock so heavy that He couldn’t lift it. This is an absurdity that is impossible to perform.
2) If it does not contradict His own nature.
i.e. God cannot lie or steal, for these things would contradict his own nature.
So, our God is able to do anything!!! I want to focus my message on the fact that we serve a God Who is able! I want us to look at what the Bible says that He is able to do:
I. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO SAVE THE LOST! (HEBREWS 7:25)
Exp.– The Ninevites that Jonah preached to were some of the most vile and wicked people who have ever lived. Jonah wanted God to destroy them.
Jonah 4:1-2–“But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. 2And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.”
Sometimes we are guilty of picking those we think should be saved or can be saved and we witness to them, but fail to witness to others that we think are beyond God’s ability to save. However, God is able to save anyone who will come to Him in repentance and faith!
2 Peter 3:9–“The Lord . . .is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
Ezekiel 33:11–“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?”
Romans 1:16–“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
II. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO SECURE THE SAVED! (JUDE 24)
John 10:27-29 reveals that we have been given eternal life. Something that is eternal, never ends! He also said there that his sheep would never perish! If it were possible to be lost after we were saved, then Jesus told a lie.
The Bible also says there in that passage that we are in the hands of both the Father and Jesus Christ. We also know from Ephesians 4:30 that we who are saved are sealed by the Holy Ghost until the day of redemption. Other passages talk about His indwelling presence in our lives.
In order for us to be lost someone has to be powerful enough to remove us out of the hand of both the Father and His son Jesus Christ. Jesus said that no one is able to do that.
And then on top of that they would have to be powerful enough to undo the sealing and remove the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit from our lives. We know that is impossible, because the Holy Spirit is just as much God as the Father and the Son!
Also, the Lord has promised to never leave us nor forsake us!
Hebrews 13:5–“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Paul said in 2 Timothy 1:12–For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
Romans 8:31-39
III. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO SUCCOUR (I.E. HELP) THE TEMPTED!
(HEBREWS 2:17-18)
2 Peter 2:9–“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:”
1 Corinthians 10:13–“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
James 4:8–“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.”
IV. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO SUPPLY US WITH GRACE! (2 CORINTHIANS 9:8)
Whatever grace we need–
Saving Grace.
Serving Grace.
Suffering Grace.
2 Corinthians 12:8-10–“ 8For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
Examples:
The Three Hebrew Children in Daniel 3:15-18, 29
Daniel in Daniel 6:20
V. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO SURPASS OUR EXPECTATIONS. (EPHESIANS 3:20)
Examples:
In Moses Day, God parted the Red Sea, provided water in the desert, fed the children of Israel each day with Manna, caused their clothes and shoes not to wear out.
In Joshua’s day, the mighty walls of Jericho came tumbling down by the obedience of God’s people.
In Gideon’s day, the Midianite army which outnumbered Gideon’s army was soundly defeated.
VI. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO RAISE THE DEAD. (HEBREWS 11:17-19)
John 11:25-26–“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
1 Corinthians 15:12-20; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
VII. OUR GOD IS ABLE TO SUBDUE ALL THINGS TO HIMSELF.
(PHILIPPIANS 3:21)
One of these days very soon all things will be subdued to God!
Conclusion
We serve a God who is able! Are you living in the victory that He provides?
We sing “Victory In Jesus,” but do we really believe it?
1 John 4:4–“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
